Nebraska Beef E. coli Scare Hits Cub Foods, biggs

Aug 14, 2008

Fresh meat products sold by Supervalu subsidiaries Cub Foods and biggs are the latest to be implicated in an ongoing nationwide recall of Nebraska Beef products due to possible E. coli contamination.

Both chains said they are recalling the same three varieties of case-ready Wild Harvest brand beef steaks: choice ribeye steak, beef choice sirloin steak, and beef choice strip steak.

The meat was supplied by Meyer Natural Angus/Coleman Natural Beef, which used the slaughterhouse services of Nebraska Beef Ltd.

The beef products, which were sold in the Stillwater, Minn.-based Cub Foods stores in Minnesota and bigg's 11 stores in greater Cincinnati and northern Kentucky, were on store shelves between July 1 and August 8. They carry a sell-by date of September 6.

Both Cub and biggs are asking customers that have purchased the affected product to bring it back to stores for a full refund or exchange.

The latest round of the Nebraska Beef recall was issued August 8 for 1.2 million pounds of beef in all.
