Giant Eagle Bows fuelperks! Credit Card in Northeast Ohio Stores

Aug 28, 2008

Giant Eagle has launched a signature fuelperks! credit card in many of its Cleveland area supermarkets, as well as in all of its Canton and Toledo stores.

Rolled out in the Akron area in late July, the new credit card -- which is valid for use only at Giant Eagle and GetGo stores -- will help customers rack up more fuelperks gasoline discounts.

Set to be available in all of the grocer's stores throughout Ohio in the coming weeks, customers who use the card to buy $50 or more in groceries and other items inside Giant Eagle and GetGo stores will earn an additional four-cent discount per gallon of fuel at GetGo on top of the discounts already earned by using their Giant Eagle Advantage Card. The Pittsburgh-based chain's new credit cardholders can also earn an additional four cents off per gallon for every $100 spent on fuel.

Brett Merrell, the grocer's v.p. of marketing, said the new fuelperks! credit card "not only gives customers the opportunity to add to the fuelperks! they earn by shopping inside Giant Eagle and GetGo, [but] for the first time [also] allows them to earn rewards by purchasing the fuel itself, helping them to save more, faster."

Card members will be able to view statements, pay their bill online and learn more about the annual fee-free card. Throughout its introduction into additional stores in the coming weeks, Giant Eagle will promote the credit card in print, weekly circular and in-store advertisements.

Giant Eagle operates 162 corporate and 61 independently owned and operated supermarkets, as well as 145 fuel and convenience stores throughout western Pennsylvania, Ohio, north central West Virginia and Maryland.
